Generally, solar panel efficiency refers to how well a solar panel arrests sunlight and transforms that sunlight into electricity for your home. For the most part, you’re going to want a panel with a higher efficiency rating as it will give more electricity than a lower-efficiency panel of identical size.

For the most part, the entire line of Trina solar panels are about on par with other industry leaders in terms of solar panel efficiency. Though not quite as highly rated as Sunpower or Panasonic, they should yield a sound energy output.
An excellent quality solar panel is only as right as its power output and overall performance. After all, a solar panel that doesn’t provide enough energy for your home is pretty much useless. When rating power output and performance, the industry standard is to go by the temperature coefficient.
The temperature coefficient is the best gauge of how well a given solar panel will serve during non-ideal conditions. Like any voltaic device, solar panels do better when they are kept cool, ideally at around 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The point of the temperature coefficient is to tell you just how well your panel will perform when temperatures eclipse this point.
For every single degree beyond that 77 degrees Fahrenheit, electricity generation will wane by the panel’s temperature coefficient. For example, the Trina Solar TSM-305PEG14 has a temperature coefficient of- 0.41%/C. This suggests that if the panel’s temperature rises by one degree from 77 degrees Fahrenheit to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, the panel’s electricity production will decrease by -0.41%. If temperatures exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit, the production will reduce by 4.1%.
On average, every panel in the Trina Solar Panels range, including the residential Allmax series, has a temperature coefficient between -0.38%/C and -0.41%C. The current industry average is -0.39%/C. In this way, Trina solar panels do offer an excellent temperature coefficient in terms of manufacturers averages, including brands such as SunPower.
Unique PV Cell Technology
One thing we do want to touch on while reviewing Trina solar panels is their unique PV cell technology. It is part of why every panel in the Trina lineup has such an exemplary temperature coefficient. Trina products feature a high-efficiency sell known as the N-type i-TopCon cell, which features multi-busbars or MBB cells and advanced bifacial cells. Trinia is one of the few manufacturers offering this technology.
MBB cells increase overall efficiency and reliability in panels. Traditional flat ribbon busbars on the front of the cells partially shade the cell, which reduces efficiency and performance. Trina’s MBB technology increases performance and efficiency by reducing the natural shading that comes from old-school ribbon busbars. Other benefits include reduced cell temperature, which makes for a lower risk of hot spot formation should a cell fracture.
Any big purchase should come backed by a comprehensive warranty. A solar panel’s warranty typically stands with a guarantee from the producer that they will replace your panel if it fails due to environmental or manufacturing defects. The industry standard is a ten year-materials warranty, though higher-end panels can have warranties up to 25 years. Trina offers the standard 10-year warranty against any unforeseen defects in their panels, which is on par with Panasonic.
Though not the most comprehensive warranty, it is more than adequate for what you get.
What will you end up paying should you choose to go with Trina solar panels? Part of our review includes the cost. It is often the top factor that can make or break a solar panel purchase. The cost of installing Trina solar panels will vary depending on the equipment used and the exact shape of your roof. Trina solar panel systems cost between $2.49 and $3.26 per watt. This makes them a great option if you’re looking to spend a little less on your solar home project. For an average 6kW Trina system, your gross cost would be between $14,940 and $20,940. Most homeowners will end up paying much less than the total gross price due to incentives, rebates, and tax credits.
Trina Solar panels may not be the industry-leading brand in efficiency or performance, but they do have the technology and experience to back up their products. They offer cost-efficient and quality products with a generous 10-year warranty. If you’re looking for solar panels that are economical and boast a fairly average temperature coefficient, then Trina might be for you. If you’re looking for something a bit more high-end, you might want to continue searching for the best solar panels for you.
