Natural Light Solar Attic Fans – Review
Roof Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fans
About the Product
The Roof Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fan offers powerful venting, flexibility, and durability.
Flat and sloped roofs are suitable, and while they are typically used for residential homes, they may also be used in non-residential locations.
Our Review
The Roof Mounted fans are available in 4 venting capacities: 1184, 1560, 1881, and 2105 CFM. Most solar attic fans offer 800 to 1600 CFM, so undoubtedly, the venting capacity of the Roof Mounted fans is well above average.
Besides, the availability of multiple venting capacities makes it easier to choose the variant most fitting for the attic size.
As expected, the Roof Mounted fans are available in 4 solar panel sizes: 16, 32, 48, and 65 watts.
If you opt for the 65W variant of the Roof Mounted fans, know that it only comes with a remote solar panel. As a result, the panel does not fit into the attic fan housing. So, you have to install it separately.
However, you get an adjustable solar panel with the 16-, 32-, and 48-watt variants. With these, you can alter the angle of the solar panel for maximum sun exposure.
On flexibility, you can use the Roof Mounted fans on various roof types, whether flat or sloped. You can also install it on asphalt, wood shake, clay, or tile roofs.
The Roof Mounted fans are made with any one of 3 variants of aluminum: powder-coated grey, powder-coated black, satin, or bronze.
Compared to the powder-coated variants, the bronze variant is more resistant to sunlight, sturdier, and more metallic. Also, the powder coating on the powder-coated variants can peel off. But the aluminum bronze does not peel off.
The upside to the powder-coated variants is that you can easily repaint/recoat them and choose various colors.
Since the body of the roof-mounted Natural Light solar attic fans is made of aluminum, it does not bow to corrosion readily.
Pros
- Made with aluminum housing, the Roof Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fans are resistant to corrosion and durable.
- The Roof Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic fans are effective if you match the attic size to the correct attic venting capacity. At the least, they would reduce the workload of your HVAC system.
- It works for sloped and flat roofs.
- You can use it on various types of roofs.
- Lifetime warranty coverage.
Cons
- Sometimes when a part of the PV panel gets covered, the attic fan stops working.
Natural Light Ultra Low Profile Fan (Fixed Solar Panel)
About the Product
While the company markets the Ultra Low Profile Fan as a variant of the Roof Mounted Solar Attic Fans. It is referred to as the 35-watt option of the Roof Mounted Solar Attic Fans.
However, there are significant differences between the Ultra Low Profile Fan and the regular Roof Mounted Solar Attic fans.
Our Review
Unlike the regular Roof Mounted Solar Attic Fans, the Ultra Low Profile Fan hood comes only as powder-coated aluminum. You do not get the aluminum bronze option with this.
Also, you do not get an adjustable solar panel with the Ultra Low Profile Fan. The solar panel attached to the hood is fixed in place.
The Ultra Low Profile Fan has a 5-blade aluminum fan like the regular Roof Mounted fans. However, the whole fan is designed to be flatter than the regular roof-mounted fans.
The design of the Ultra Low Profile Fan is such that it hugs the roof. This ensures that the attic fan resists displacement from tornadoes, hurricanes, and similar high-velocity events of nature.
Pros
- With its design, the Ultra Low Profile Fan will stand up to tornadoes, hurricanes, and similar events better than regular roof-mounted fans.
- Like the regular roof-mounted fans, it works for flat and sloped roofs.
- The attic venting capacity suffices for rooms measuring up to 2400 sq. ft. So, when used in the proper attic size, you can ease the amount of work your HVAC system does.
- Lifetime warranty coverage.
Cons
- You cannot adjust the solar panel to maximize sun exposure.
- It is available in only one venting capacity.
Curb Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fan
About the Product
The Curb Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fan offers virtually the same qualities as the Roof Mounted fans. The only difference is the installation process and the suitable roof types.
Our Review
Like the Roof Mounted fans, the Curb Mounted fans are made of heavy-duty aluminum, available in bronze, powder-coated grey, and powder-coated satin black.
They come in the same 4 solar panel sizes and venting capacities as the Roof Mounted fans. And similarly, the 65-watt variant comes with a solar panel installed separately from the attic fan housing.
The Curb Mounted fans come with an adjustable solar panel. So, you can always alter the panel’s angle for better sun exposure.
While the Roof Mounted fans can be installed on flat and sloped roofs, the Curbed Mounted fans are only suited for flat roofs with curbs. Additionally, the Curbed Mounted fans must be pre-installed on the curbs.
More times than not, Roof Mounted fans are used in residential buildings. The Curbed Mounted fans, on the other hand, are commonly used in industrial/commercial buildings.
Pros
- The durability of the Curbed Mounted fans and the Roof Mounted fans are similar.
- When the attic venting capacity of the fan is correctly matched with your attic space, you should get enough venting to reduce the work of your HVAC system.
- They come with a lifetime warranty.
Cons
- Unlike the Roof Mounted fans, the Curbed Mounted fans can only be installed on flat roofs with curbs.
Gable Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fan
About the Product
Apart from the painting on the fan housing and the installation site, the Gable Mounted Natural Light Solar Attic Fan offers a similar experience to the Roof Mounted fans.
Our Review
The Gable Mounted fans are available in the same 4 solar panel sizes and attic venting capacities as the Roof Mounted fans. They also use an adjustable solar panel, so you can constantly reposition the panels for better sun exposure.
Attic fan housings for Gable Mounted fans are mounted in gables instead of Roof Mounted fans mounted on the roof. However, their solar panels are installed on the roof. You can install them on flat or sloped roofs, wood shakes, clay, tile, or asphalt.
Aluminum bronze or powder-coated aluminum is used for roof-mounted fans, whereas aluminum is not for attic housing on Gable Mounted fans.
Still, the durability and sturdiness are pretty much the same. However, the housing of the Roof Mounted fans is more resistant to sunlight than that of the Gable Mounted fans.
This difference is not an issue because the housing of the Gable Mounted fans will remain in the gable, where little sunlight will reach them.
Pros
- With the appropriate attic fan for your attic size, you can ease the amount of work your HVAC system does with these fans.
- Offers similar durability and resistance to corrosion as the Roof Mounted fans. However, it is less resistant to sunlight.
- The solar panels can be installed on various roof types.
- Comes with a lifetime warranty.
Cons
- The installation will complicate if you do not have a pre-existing roof in your house.

Customer Service
Customers should fill out a form on the company’s website if they have questions or comments. However, it takes around one business day to get a response from them – we believe the response time could be better.
Besides the web form, you may reach customer service through the official email. Then you may also call their toll-free phone number or the other two phone numbers.
Overall, the customer service of the brand is friendly and professional. However, they can work on their response times.
Accessories

Safety Accessories
You may get the Thermal Snap Switch and the Fire Safety Cutoff Switch for extra safety and to prevent fire hazards.
This accessory is compatible with every Natural Light solar attic fan.
Remote Solar Panels
While the Roof Mounted fans and Curb Mounted fans typically come with solar panels attached to the fan housing, this brand offers you the option of a remote solar panel.
These types of panels of fan housing can be installed away from it.
Garage Vent Kit
The company offers a garage vent kit if you intend to use either the Roof Mounted fans or the Curb Mounted fans to ventilate your garage.
This kit includes an 8-feet flexible duct pipe that connects the bottom of the fan housing to the garage ceiling. The pipe channels spent air from the garage outdoors through the attic.
Tax Credit
All solar fans made by this brand qualify for solar tax credits, except the Curb Mounted fans.
As curb-mounted fans are typically used in industrial/commercial buildings, such structures are not eligible for tax credits.
Natural Light Solar Attic Fans Versus Competition (Remington)
Price
On average, Remington solar attic fans are just slightly above half the Natural Light solar fan price. And this makes Natural Light products the more expensive options.
Ease of Installation
As long as you know how to install a solar attic fan, the ease of installing fans from both brands is pretty much the same.
Available Venting Capacities
Remington solar attic fans are available in 3 venting capacities: 1280, 1600, and 2200 CFM. On the other hand, Natural Light solar attic fans come in 4 venting capacities: 1184, 1560, 1881, and 2105 CFM, except the Ultra Low Profile fan, which comes in one venting capacity: 1597 CFM.
Between both brands, you get more options with Natural Light. However, the venting capacity range of Remington fans is relatively higher.
Number of Blades
Remington fans typically have 4 blades, while Natural Light has 5 blades. However, this difference does not affect how the attic fan works.
Warranty
Natural Light offers a lifetime warranty on many of its fans. On the other hand, Remington offers a limited lifetime warranty on their fans.
Solar Panel
With Natural Light, you can get a remote solar panel for the roof-mounted and curb-mounted fans. However, with Remington, only the gable fans come with remote solar panels.
Final Thoughts
Natural Light is undoubtedly up there at the summit of the manufacturers of solar attic fans. People typically come across them when searching for solar-powered attic fans.
With them, you get a top-notch warranty, product durability & longevity, and product flexibility.
